PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

Note: This job involves either administrative and physical activity or just physical activity. If job has only administrative activities, match to Administrative Support - Materials (9321-9324).

Responsible for performing the physical or administrative/physical tasks involved in the shipping, receiving, storing, and distributing of materials, parts, supplies and equipment. Unpacks and checks goods received against purchase orders or invoices, maintains records of received goods, rejecting unsatisfactory items where necessary. Lifts heavy items and may operate a forklift. Prepares and maintains records of merchandise shipped. Posts weights and shipping charges and prepares goods for final shipment. Examines, stocks and distributes materials in inventory and on manufacturing lines. May prepare kitting packages for assembly production.

 

LEVELING REQUIREMENTS

Entry Level: Works on assignments that are routine in nature where limited judgment is required. Normally receives detailed instructions on all work. Requires basic reading, writing, addition and subtraction skills.

Intermediate Level: Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required. Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments. Requires experience in shipping, receiving and stores, and reading, writing, and basic arithmetic skills. Completion of high school, vocational training, or equivalent is preferred.

Senior Level: Works on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required in resolving problems and making routine recommendations. Normally receives no instruction on routine work, general instructions on new assignments. Requires experience in shipping, receiving and stores, and reading, writing, and basic arithmetic skills. Completion of high school, vocational training, or equivalent is preferred.

Highly Skilled Level: Works on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations. May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel. Requires experience in shipping, receiving and stores, and reading, writing, and basic arithmetic skills. Completion of high school, vocational training, or equivalent is preferred.
